I will never forget when the song “Someone Like You” was at it’s height of popularity, I walked into a gas station/convenience store on the reservation we lived close to, and the second this song came on over the store speakers, EVERYONE in the store started singing. Every shopper, every employee. It’s one of those memories I will never forget.

And yet, where is she today? Retired from a Las Vegas residency? Somehow becoming a Vegas lounge singer wouldn’t be my dream gig, although it would be very lucrative. Adele has a great voice but like so many of these musicians, they flame out never to be relevant again except in Sin City. When it’s all said and done many will be a mere footnote unlike the David Bowie’s who live on in infamy. 21st century music is homogeneous unlike the the 20th century where it was cutting-edge and groundbreaking. The good old days, I sure do miss them.

She decided to move into a new phase of her life, I don’t think it had anything to do with declining popularity or cultural impact. She’s made a ton of money, was open about wanting to take a step back and focus on her family, and I respect it. When you have as big a hit as “21,” you’ll be remembered by many for a very, very long time. From an NME piece: “I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break, and I will fantasise about these shows and any shows that I’ve done over the last three years. It has been amazing, I just need a rest. I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now.” Can’t knock any of that IMO. https://www.nme.com/news/music/adele-announces-break-from-performing-i-will-not-see-you-for-an-incredibly-long-time-3789536

Well good for her! Nice to see there are people who value family over fame and piles of cash. Didn’t mean to disparage her, I’m just not that familiar with her story. I do believe she is a true belter in the style of the great vocalists unlike the wimping Taylor Swifts we’ve become inundated with. You’ve heard one, you’ve heard em all. Thanks for the response. Love talking music with those who truly appreciate it! Cheers!
