I grasp the pop aspects of Bruce. Had energy. He was a mainstreamer. Some decent lyrics on asbury. He never can hold a candle near: Warren zevon. Lou reed , Johnny winter , Elvis Costello. The list is long and he ain’t on it … for me.

A great review Matt! Wonderful to see you back, I’ve missed your writing. Bruce’s style of rock n roll has never really done it for me, outside of Born in the U.S.A., which 13-year old Mark was all over.

To be honest, after giving the album a listen my favorite is probably the quietest one, “Meeting Across the River”.

What I really didn’t expect, in 2025, is that Bruce Springsteen would have an album I’ve fallen in love, one which I’ll be ranking highly on my AOTY list this year. The “Twilight Hours” disc on Tracks II is such a special album with multiple sings that can bring a tear to my eye. If you haven’t listened to it yet, I’d highly recommend it.

Thanks Mark! Great to be back and writing about the Boss! Lots more Springsteen content coming up this week, including a deeper dive into Tracks II and what I loved about it (including "Twilight"). Appreciate the continued support!

Meeting Across the River going into Jungleland. And of course Backstreets.

I'm listening to it right now!

We always have to give props to the E-Street Band. Roy Bittan has become a keyboard god to me, and Clarence Clemons always blew his horn with astounding clarity and vision.

Great appreciation of an incredible LP - but that’s Roy Bittan on “Thunder Road”. David Sancious only played on the title track before leaving the band. (“Backstreets” gets my vote for favorite song, btw.)

I was at a Springsteen concert back in the 70s with my college friends, we were all singing along to Jungleland. When we sang “…whispers of soft…refusal…and then…surrender…”, the girl next to me looked up at me and said “what do you know about surrender?” In the saddest voice I’d ever heard.

Jersey Rocks and Bruce is a big part. New Jersey’s Meadowlands is where I saw him do his thing. Brendan Byrne Arena gifted a ticket by a fan of our Edgewater cover band after a gig in Pal Park. We did Prove It All Night and I lived it that night. She Was a Jersey Girl and loved Bruce. She put her makeup on and the show proved the point with 3 hours of non-stop hits. They carried him on their shoulders through the crowd, it was a real... still being from Jersey means getting the hell out of Jersey... but every time I try to get out you keep pulling me back in! Eh, Tony, how's about dat one?
