Yes, you are right about this tune. The same can be said for its' follow-up, "I'm A Man", which unfortunately was their last hit.
Oddly, the first version many North Americans heard of the recording was one that had additional background vocals and keyboards dubbed on- the original version is much more of the stripped-down jam discussed in the article. Evidently, UA felt it needed "fixing" and their British label, Fontana, didn't.
And Steve was just getting started! He'd soon launch Traffic, and then briefly team up with Eric Clapton in Blind Faith as well. And then in the 80s he had a strong run of Grammy-winning solo hits...
We're on to something here. Just read Chris's Biography The Islander highly recommended. I had it for a while but waited until I wrote my latest stack post My Year at Island Records '83 2nd draft to dive in and clear up some discrepancies. What a great book!
Needless to say your post perfectly aligns with Chris''s recollection. Probably his most important signing.
So guess what band I'm writing my next stack post about? Hint: Her next band with her husband was signed to my 109 Records in 89. I have this (one of my favorite bands ever) newest LP arriving today for my Friday Night listening. If you get this you win the album and a signed by both cassette of this punk power couple's most unknown and underrated work.

Thanks for the insight David, as always :)
Steve's organ is just banger. I mean, I can't add anymore.

I’ll have to track that book down now — thanks Steve!
