A brilliant album indeed. I’ve always had such respect for her and the fearlessness that you so rightly mentioned. I absolutely adored The Lion and The Cobra and this follow up exceeded my lofty expectations. It’s an all-timer.
I loved this review Matt, one of the best pieces you’ve ever written IMO
Thanks so much Mark, means a lot :) The Lion and the Cobra is also a powerful listen, anyone in the comments who's unfamiliar, please check that one out too!
Great review of a brilliant album, Matt. I listened many, many times when it was fist released. I already had ‘Lion’ and this was a progression from that debut. ‘Nothing Compares’ overshadows the other tracks but it remains a masterpiece of a record.
I was shocked at the treatment she received from Prince, detailed in her autobiography. I probably shouldn’t have been.
Agree with everything in this comment, thanks for the kind words Ian. :) Her autobiography was a harrowing read but I would say indispensable for folks who value warts-and-all introspective writing. It’s a terrific memoir.

Thanks Linda!!
