That’s an excellent performance, it’s really heartening to read Steve Hackett’s recent interviews talking about how all the original members of Genesis still talk (with the occasional gripe).
Yeah, I saw that too. I don't know how long they have been in contact, whether it's a more recent development or it's been good between them all for a long while.
Huge fan of Phil Collin’s work. Always have been and always will. I got to see him solo once and with Genesis three times. His drumming has always been amazing. Even when you listen to old Genesis, you can get an ear for his “roll” between lyrics.
I am awaiting all of his solo albums to be released in a surround sound format!!! I have the Genesis box sets in this format and they are amazing.
Great post. Interesting point about forgetting magnificence - I do that with a lot of music. Tracks I think I’m over familiar with still get me when I listen again; not least, of course, In the Air Tonight. Live, Collins nails it every time.
This morning I read a review of the new Live Aid musical (yes, such a show exists!). The review credited In the Air to Genesis. I felt annoyed. Is that rational? Perhaps it’s knowing the backstory - Banks was of critical Collins for not offering Air to Genesis, Collins says he did and it was turned down. Banks says he’s sure he would remember if it had been ... etc etc etc.
Anyway, Guardian reviewer, Genesis did not play Live Aid. Collins did, twice.
Interesting trivia, I did not know that. Collins has been such a formative musical force in my life, I actually almost didn't write today's post out of sheer intimidation. Thanks as always!

Right?? It's nice to know at least one legacy group can still be friends/at least civil with one another. Thanks for reading!

Oh yes, that would be something indeed! 🤘🙌
