Such a great post, Matt! While researching You Should Be Dancing, I read Bob Stanley’s Children of the World—they had such a fascinating career. And Jive Talkin’ is definitely one of their best!
Those guys could always read the room commercially. They did Beatles-like stuff in the '60s before switching over to R&B/disco sounds in the '70s and then more adult contemporary material in the '80s. (And that was just their own hits; they also wrote many hit records for other artists). That's one of the reasons they survived when most of their peers had thrown in the towel.
