Their crowd loved them and they gave them the punk thing they came for.

It's hard to express just how much I love this band. I pitched this record on Exile, but it fell on deaf ears (so to speak). I listen to songs on this album pretty much everyday, but it's been a while since I listened to the whole album all the way through. If I had to pick a favorite Ramones song, I'd have to go with "I Just Wanna Have Something To Do." What other band could open with the heroic couplet "Hanging out on Second Avenue. Eating chicken vindaloo."? And I highly recommend Garbage's cover of this song on We're A Happy Family.

In the second half of the 70's, I remember The Ramones getting a fair amount of airplay on two NYC radio stations (WNEW FM and WPIX FM) as New Wave and punk picked up more steam. There was an appeal to their straight-ahead garage band sound. As I look back now, I see similarities between Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers and The Ramones.
