"Label: A&M"

This is wrong. It was actually released on Ode Records, the label run by the record's producer, Lou Adler.

Corrected, thanks David.

You mixed up the studio name and the label name- it happens. Sometimes it's recorded at a certain label's studio even though it's released on a different label- usually it happens when the distributing label doesn't have an in-house studio.

The CD anniversary reissue has the Ode trademark on it, along with that of Legacy Recordings, the reissue arm of Sony, who apparently owns Ode's catalogue...

Oh, she also wrote Locomotion! Didn‘t knew that. My favorite is „It‘s Too Late“.

She and Gerry Goffin wrote beaucoup bangers in the '60s.

Finally got around to reading this and Tapestry is another album that was on repeat along with After The Gold Rush. My parents were ready to kill me. I think Carole King is a musical genius who paved the way for every piano playing girl who could sing. Unfortunately no one can hold a candle to her! And unlike so many musicians she always comes across as genuinely nice person. Thanks for reminding me that Danny Kootch was her guitarist, another exceptional, musical talent with a long list of singer/songwriters with whom he collaborated with like Don Henley.

Such a great album! I also think "It's Too Late" is one of the most sad and beautiful tracks ever recorded. That bridge in the middle is impeccable! I'm also a big fan of "I Feel the Earth Move," "Where You Lead" and "Smackwater Jack." During that time my older sister tried playing that latter song on the piano and actually did quite well with it. A classic!

Camp. I first heard Tapestry at a visit to a girl's camp doing a co-ed play. It was over the outdoor speakers everyone was moved by it, and it made all of us one. No gimmicks, pure emotion and grit. It seems like yesterday. In fact, "Yesterday" was the previous time I felt that weird sense of present tense nostalgia for something I had yet to truly experience but the music presaged it in the best of ways. Heartbreak can only happen to those in love of course. The Pajama Game was the play I was cast in and a song from it originated by John Raitt (Bonnie's Father) in the lead role "Hey There" I'm going to sing as a duet with the GSO Big Band, full circle. It was the only play I was in before 2000 when I became a trained actor on the stage. I was a music guy all in between and concurrently but now back in the music soup in a big band way. I wasn't the lead role but the featured role of Prez as in President of the Union as we were more socially conscious back then. 1970 was right after we were getting used to Nixon. We needed Carole. She made us feel something I never forgot. Good music can do that and make you remember a feeling your entire lifetime. She wrote a kid's play with the song "The Awful Truth" check it out. I was tapped to play it for a Halloween Show a few years back, but it was too complicated to figure out all the many chords not on the chart. I didn't want to just play the leads which are cool, but I enjoyed working on it. I had a lot of other tasks as Vampire Elvis, Time Warp / Riff Raff etc... It's a great song and shows how creative one can be even within the confines of pop. I thank you for writing about this album of great songs. If there's one thing to take away from my awful rant it is that we all need to try to write better songs and be better neighbors. It might just save us from becoming robots or even worse ruled by robots. "The humans are dead" by the Flight of the Conchords is closer than we think and it's a better song than most of the new ones. It's time to wake up America.

“We needed Carole. She made us feel something I never forgot.” That’s real power right there. Thanks Steve!
