Rarely does a cover exceed an earlier or original version of a song, but this...
Ronald Isley and his brothers of course sang the hell out of "Twist And Shout" in their take, but Lennon wails here like a patient in an insane asylum, with the "woos" of the other guys almost seemingly driving him even more nuts...
I'm sure I'll find something that contradicts this statement when I go back through the Beatles catalog again, but I'd say "Twist and Shout" is my favorite vocal performance by Lennon with the band. And this is on the Mount Rushmore of all-time greatest covers.
You knocked it out of the park with this pick! Love it!

A man possessed indeed.
What a fantastic pick for Fun Song Fridays! "Twist and Shout" truly embodies timeless joy. I love this in Ferris Bueller's Day Off!
Thanks Jon!

Thanks Matt!! :)
A great cover, I also like the Beatles version of Chuck Berry’s- Roll over Beethoven.
Another good one, thanks Mark!
It’s nice to remember this song again. I didn’t know about John’s physical malady affecting his voice so thanks for the inside baseball there.
Always a pleasure to deliver some good trivia. Thanks Daniel!
